1 - Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
- I know everyone is talking about this game and has at this point glazed Expedition 33 to hell and back. But it really does deserve it, I remember seeing that initial trailer last year going into 2025 with this and Death Stranding 2 being my most anticipated games, and even with that expectation. Expedition 33 exceeded them drastically and became a video game that was an absolute masterpiece of a video game and one whether you want to accept it or not, will be a generation defining game that will be up there with many of the other greats of this decade.
- There is a soundtrack that is incredible, characters that are well written and feel human, a narrative that is powerful, conflicting and a conclusion that leaves people torn and debating what truly is the right ending both morally and canonically.
- It’s gameplay harkens back to an encapsulations of what made the PS1 era of turn-based RPGs tick with a world map, side objectives, super bosses, and good old turn-based combat that has interactions that mirror the reflexes of something like Sekiro.
- Expedition 33 also represents a success story for an Indie Studio to build a game on this scale on a 10 million dollar budget, in a 6 year window with a team of roughly 30-40 people and yes, external resources. It all in totality is a far cry to the triple A landscape it is juxtaposed against and is a showcase of the overall talent working at Sandfall.
